Before I designed this instrument for my own kids, I had two options when I was shopping for them:
1. Buy a $1,000 "professional" instrument that they weren’t quite ready for
or
2. Get a cheap/clunky-sounding "toy instrument pack" or a battery-operated one that sounded terrible.
It was hard for me to buy a $30 pack of clanky toy instruments at Target, that didn’t help teach any musical skills and sounded like… garbage. I knew I didn’t want that noise and chaos cluttering my headspace at home.
So I set out to design an instrument that:
- Sounds Beautiful
- Gently introduces them to music reading (without me having to be right there to teach them)
- Is well-tuned, with high quality materials, so their playing would help with ear-training and pitch awareness (super high level musical skills that they can do subconsciously while playing the Pitch Bars)
-
Doesn’t cost $1,000.
*And my favorite part* - Uses Catholic hymns and prayers to bring Liturgical Music into our home.
I can’t tell you how much I love to be working in the kitchen, and hearing a soft chiming of “Holy Holy Holy” or “Salve Regina” playing in the other room.
We of course arranged many other songs that play perfectly on the pitch bars - check out the song selection spread from our Religious Song Cards 2
